Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary may have taken place last year, but that doesn’t mean we stop celebrating.
Today, Mass Appeal opens the doors to Hip Hop Til Infinity, an exhibit that takes you on an immersive trip from the birth of Hip-Hop until now. In partnership with The Hip Hop Museum, Hip Hop Til Infinity takes over the old Amoeba store on Sunset Blvd., and will remain open until March 18th.
Not only does the exhibit highlight all facets of the genre, from East Coast to West Coast, they also recruited one of the game’s most well-respected rappers, Snoop Dogg, to be a contributor to the museum. With November 23rd marking the 30th anniversary of Snoop Dogg’s Platinum-selling debut album, Doggystyle, it was only right to have a Doggystyle installation with artifacts from Snoop, featuring real recordings of his biggest hits such as “Gin and Juice.”
Snoop states, “West Coast rap is integral to the story of Hip-Hop. The genre started on the East Coast and made its way to California where we put our own swag on it. It’s dope to see the Hip Hop Til Infinity exhibit acknowledging the 50 years of Hip Hop and to have the spotlight on the 30 years of Doggystyle within the exhibit is something special. “
Jon Colclough, VP Creative Strategy at Mass Appeal, describes his excitement for Snoop’s involvement.
“To be able to partner with so many iconic names and groups like Snoop or Death Row or Battlecat, just having the community of LA rally around this, that means more than anything that I can even describe,” Colclough states. “That’s the biggest thing, is getting the actual buy in from the people that are responsible. We’ve been lucky enough to be able to work with some of the best, so that was the thing I’m most excited about. Bringing in the people that are responsible.”
The ticketed experience showcases rare and collectible items from some of the West Coast’s most respected names in rap, including Death Row, Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle, Delicious Vinyl, KDAY. Guests will also be able to shop a wide variety of curated records, such as new releases and re-issues from Snoop Dogg, E-40, DJ Shadow, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, and De La Soul.
